Prior to my software engineering career,
I used to teach computer science to kids and teenagers.
I taught a wide variety of languages and tools to many different students in a diverse array of contexts. Teaching is an incredibly rewarding career, especially when you believe in the importance of the skills you are teaching your students.
By the end of my teaching career I was spending all of my time mentoring and managing other teachers. I was making a huge impact on the educational outcomes of many students, but I didn't enjoy the work as much as I used to.
It was time for me to move on to something new. Now I bring the excellent communication skills and diverse technical expertise I got from a decade of teaching to the task of building software.
In addition to building software, I enjoy cooking, riding my bike, and making my own little videogames.
